Famine in the world
Jesus told His disciples that famines will be one of the signs for His coming. (Matthew 24:7). As we have seen in the previous chapter there will be draught in the whole world due to global warming. This draught will lead on to famines.

There are many factors lead to famines. The scientists and geologists agree that the world is fast moving towards a stage in which there will be great famines in the land. When we read the newspapers they tell us everyday about famines. Millions of people throughout the world, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries are dying due to starvation. Many African countries are reeling under starvation and death. The following are the main causes of famines: 

1. Global warming
2. Failure of seasons 
3. Diminishing of underwater 
4. Deforestation 
5. Wars 
6. Natural calamities

Greenhouse Gases:

The increased emission of gases in the developing countries are at risk in the build up of “greenhouse gases”. This is due to the growth of civilization and technical developments. Apart from this, forest fireand deforestation decreases the Carbon-dioxide content in the atmosphere which in turn soak up the rain forests of the world.

Famine and epidemics:

Many epidemics are on the rise nowadays. When the temperature of the world shoots up “terrible and painful sores” (Rev. 16:2) can appear in human skin. This is repeatedly said in Revelation 16:8 and 16:11. This is happening even now. Diseases like AIDS, Hepatitis B and plagues are on the increase throughout the world. All these causes poverty and famine in families and in turn in many nations.

Many African countries like Ethiopia and Angola are reeling under poverty and famine. Thousands of people and children are dying in these countries due to malnutrition.

Wars and news of Wars:

Jesus said, “And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars” (Matt: 24:6). Everyday our newspapers carry news about wars. Television screams about war. Wars within countries, wars due to terrorists and wars between countries are common nowadays. The ethnic problem in Srilanka is not yet settled in spite of many peace efforts. Thousands of people lost their lives. Recently we had a war in Afganistan. Although the war between India and Pakistan is averted temporarily, the fear of war is still in the minds of people. There is war between Israel and Palestine. Combodia had a recent war. In Nigeria internal wars and coups are very common. What is result of wars? Wars are always followed by economic distress and it leads to great famine in the land.

The Governments throughout the world are laying plans to stabilize the economy of countries. Though it is necessary, the inhabitants of this world should understand that famine, poverty, draughts and wars are saying that the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is at hand. More than stabilizing the economy, the Governments should spend time in understanding and analyzing the reason for these calamities. If they find out that SIN is the underlying factor for all these catastrophe, they must confess their sins as nations as the king of Nineveh and the inhabitants mourned for their sins. They should also realize that Jesus Christ is coming soon to judge this world.

May God open the eyes of the people of this world to get ready for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the next chapter we are going to analyze about the time of Noah and Lot.
